Edmonton is About to Get Screwed
Two of the hottest, most controversial female impersonators to come out of New York City in decades unexpectedly find themselves headed to the 2012 Edmonton Fringe Festival with their raunchy, award-winning comedy show, The Screw You Revue.
Miss Didi Panache and her best gal pal, the garishly grotesque Lady Winifred will arrive in “The Chuck” as a last-minute surprise addition to the festival’s line-up of shows.
“When one of the scheduled shows dropped out, we dropped in.” Miss Didi Panache explained. “A gal’s got to be prepared for an opportunity like this one, and Lady Winifred and I are raring and ready to go.”
Working the international Fringe Festival circuit since 2007 with The Screw You Revue, the comedy duo proudly call New York City home.
“It’s a lovely little burg,” stroke-survivor Lady Winifred explained. “Didi and I share a little apartment way up in Harlem. We’re proud to be a part of the current gentrification movement in that neighborhood. But, don’t get me wrong, I don’t want all of the black people to move away. I really like some of them.”
While most of what comes out of Lady Winifred’s stroke-addled mouth might be received as inappropriate or shocking, she is quick to explain that her edit button was damaged when she suffered her stroke nineteen years ago. “After I awoke from my coma, I realized that my inside voice was now my outside voice.” She said apologetically.
When asked whether they were concerned about the fact that their show would not be listed in the fringe festival program due to their last-minute entry, Lady Winifred and Didi shook their heads in unison. “We’re the hardest working girls on the fringe circuit,” Lady Winifred said. “Didi and I will be walking the streets of the ’Village of the Fringed’ day and night letting our new fans know that we are here.”
“We’re famous for working the lines and making friends with the patrons,” Didi Panache bragged, without pretention. “While fringers are waiting in line for another show, we’ll walk up and introduce ourselves. When they meet us, it’s like they’re getting a little preview of The Screw You Revue for free!”
Miss Didi Panache, often described as “Amazonian” and “Suspiciously Statuesque,” towers above her legions of admirers at a dizzying height of 200.66 centimeters, while Lady Winifred, in her over-the-top gowns and her glittery head-dresses, creates quite a commanding presence herself. Together, these ladies are a female force to be reckoned with.
“Oh, you’ll see us out on the streets,” Lady Winifred smiles. “We’re pretty difficult to miss.”
Lady Winifred and Didi Panache’s The Screw You Revue replaces Strange Dreamz in Venue #2. The show times listed for Strange Dreamz in the official program are now the show times for The Screw You Revue.
